What is CITES?

CITES is an international agreement between countries that regulates the import and export of endangered animal and plant species — as well as certain products made from dried plants or animal furs. The goal of this convention is to protect these species from extinction.

Does this agreement apply to specific types of plants or products?

The CITES convention was originally established to protect all forms of wildlife and any products derived from them. However, if wood and leather products are produced sustainably and in an environmentally friendly manner, their trade is permitted.

Are imported products inspected for CITES compliance before shipping?

Yes. Every importer dealing with plant- or animal-based products — such as wood, fur, or leather — is required to have a valid CITES certificate.
This certification provides customers with greater trust and confidence in both the product’s origin and its quality.
