We are often drawn to glass products. When you take a closer look, you discover their charm, elegance, and the unmatched precision of their craftsmanship. Many people choose glass because it feels luxurious — it enhances our spaces as décor and serves countless purposes in daily life.

But which type of glass is best for creating our high-end products?

To answer that, we must first understand what glass actually is and how it’s made.
The base material of glass typically consists of about 75% silica. The remaining components are calcium oxide, sodium oxide, sand, limestone, iron chromite, and other minerals.

To produce glass, these raw materials are heated to extremely high temperatures. Once they melt into a viscous liquid, this liquid is shaped — either by being poured into molds or blown in furnaces — into the desired form. Sand plays a major role in glassmaking, though it doesn’t always blend entirely in every process.

The most well-known types of glass

Does glass only differ in shape? Imagine if your eyeglass lenses were made from the same glass as your car windows — hard to imagine, right? Depending on quality, refinement, and durability, glass types vary significantly.

Glass porcelain is a special type of glass fired at very high temperatures, making it resistant to extreme heat. It’s commonly used for thermal pots and cups.

Fire-resistant glass literally helps protect lives. It consists of multiple layers that make it bulletproof — used in aircraft and other high-protection applications.

Fiberglass, surprisingly, is used in the clothing industry. This blend of glass and synthetic fibers produces protective garments — such as fireproof suits worn by firefighters — shielding them from burns while saving lives.

In addition to these, there are many other glass types today, such as heat-resistant glass, invisible glass, safety glass, opal glass, foam glass, and flat glass.

The glass we use at Maison Zoe

At Maison Zoe, we primarily use modern glass and recycled glass for our products.

Modern glass is made by melting sand and minerals at high temperatures, then pouring the mixture into iron molds to achieve the desired shape. This process results in glass with exceptional thickness and clarity.

We also work extensively with recycled glass. As the name suggests, it’s glass that has been collected and melted again at high temperatures. During melting, colored powders are added to create beautiful tones before being hand-shaped. This glass stands out not only for its color variations and beauty but also for being eco-friendly and sustainable.

Our recycled glass pieces are available in eight stunning colors, offering endless possibilities for decorating your home.

Advantages of glass

It’s important to be conscious of everything we use in daily life. Glass, with its natural transparency, can be produced in varying degrees of clarity — from crystal-clear to softly opaque. It can be decorated, colored, and shaped into almost any form imaginable.

We use glass items in the kitchen, bathroom, and across interior spaces, allowing our homes to shine in a new light.

And perhaps most importantly, glass is completely safe for the environment — harmless to humans and animals alike. It’s essential to choose materials that do not harm you, your children, or the planet.

We encourage you to explore products made from the finest types of glass — pieces that bring quality, refinement, and a special atmosphere to your home.
